Terms of Service
Last updated: August 2026
These terms apply to the Guru Android application (“the App”) published by Ashwin Kumar (“we”, “us”, “our”). By installing or using the App you agree to these terms.
The App
Guru is a tool for learning Sanskrit scripture through listening and repetition. It currently includes the Vishnu Sahasranama and may include additional texts in future releases.
Licence
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the App for personal, non-commercial purposes. You may not:
- Copy, modify, or distribute the App’s source code or content without permission
- Reverse-engineer the App beyond what is permitted by applicable law
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
Scripture content
Guru includes traditional Sanskrit scripture content, provided for personal devotional and educational use. Many of these works are ancient and part of a long textual and oral tradition, and such works may be in the public domain. We make no blanket claim, however, that every Sanskrit text, translation, transcription, or edited version in the App is in the public domain — specific modern editions, translations, or adaptations may carry separate rights held by their respective authors or publishers.
The Sanskrit chant audio in the App is generated using Vāgdhenu, an open-source Sanskrit chant text-to-speech system. Vāgdhenu’s contribution is released under the Apache License 2.0. Vāgdhenu is in turn built using third-party components — including AI4Bharat IndicF5 and NVIDIA BigVGAN — which are covered by their own applicable licences.
Vāgdhenu, AI4Bharat, IndicF5, NVIDIA, and BigVGAN are named here for attribution only and remain the property of their respective owners. The licences noted above apply to those components independently of the App.
Open source components
The App is built on Flutter and uses several open-source packages, each under its own licence. Key dependencies include Flutter (BSD 3-Clause), just_audio (MIT), audio_service (MIT), provider (MIT), and shared_preferences (BSD 3-Clause).
Disclaimer of warranties
The App is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantee that the App will be error-free, uninterrupted, or suitable for any particular purpose.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the App.
Changes
We may update these terms at any time. Continued use of the App after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
